LAAD 2017: Brazil reveals lower number of modernised AMX jets
The Brazilian Air Force will receive 14 modernised Leonardo/Embraer AMX A-1A/B fighter jets instead of 43 A-1A/B aircraft (33 single-seat and 10 twin-seat) as planned when the original contract was signed with Embraer Defense and Security in December 2003 for BRL843 million (USD268 million).
An agreement is pending signature with Embraer following negotiations, the service's procurement agency, the Comissão Coordenadora do Programa Aeronave de Combate (COPAC), told
Jane's on 6 April. It is expected to be signed this year. The agreement was spurred by budget considerations and the aircraft's lifecycle,
Jane's was told.
The modernised fleet will include 12 single-seat and 2 twin-seat aircraft, or 10 single-seat and 4 twin-seat aircraft, COPAC added.
