Yes it would.

...and originally it was built as the next generation F-5, for the export market, to help many US allies upgrade their F-5s.

If its avionics, weapons systems, and cockpit were upgraded now, it would stuill be an awesome, low-cost aircraft.

But as a young man, buying our first house under Carter, and then refinancing it, selling it, and getting the second under Reagan, not to mention having four kids while Reagan was in office...Reagan was a God-send to our nation. Economically, internationally, jobs wise, .etc., etc.

My point was that the Argentine people made the decision...and they did.

Whether it will turn out to be anything like as a good a decision as Reagan, only time will tell. He simply has not been in long enough to tell whether his policies are going to have that good an impact.

But I simply find it hard to believe that they could end up any worse than his predecessor.

You are correct! Argentina could use a man like Ronald Reagan. A commence sense Cold Warrior with sound economic policy.

In fact, the world could use a man like him again.:(

Since we are on the topic of the F-5. There have been talks and rumors of talks regarding the possible sale of the US Navy F-5N fleet (32 aircraft) to the FAA as a possible place hold until a final decision is made regarding a replacement multi roll aircraft.

However, I say “what is wrong with the F-5N/E?” it is not a bad aircraft. If armed with Derby missiles it is more than enough to protect the nation. Saudi Arabia has 120 in mothballs and the Jordanians have around 30. Not to mention the South Koreans and Taiwanese.

The F-5 is also not a threat to the British even if four squadrons (of 15) were to be made operational.

What is your professional opinion?

A well maintained F-5N, with not too many hours on its airframe, and in good condition would be an excellent choice for Argentina.

Better that their upgraded A-4s that are going out of service...so they would be a step up.

Hehehe...but some brand new F-20s would even be better.

The only thing that bothers me about the F-5N is that it is third hand and has been used as an aggressor aircraft subjected to high g-loads and airframe stress.

....and yes F-20's would be great, but not possible on a used aircraft budget.

60 aircraft would replace the 30 Mirages and the 30 A-4AR. One aircraft and less logistics and maintenance costs.....

It would be nice...again if they were well maintained an if they did not have too many hours on them at such high stress levels.

I'd love to see something like that go down for Argentina...and if the new President played his cards right and made the right overtures...he might even get the UK to bless it. Though that may take longer.
