While wishing them every success in their endeavours, I hope BYD come up with car model names that resonate with the European buyer, without meaning any offence to the Chinese members, I think their current crop of names are a bit cheesey, perhaps somewhat influenced by the original source of the car. eg Rover/Rowee or Cherry which from memory used to be a model of the Nissan GRoup designated in NZ as the Datsun Cherry 120y in the 70's. when the japanese cars were trying to break into the market.

well some chinese automakers have names i like. FAW which stands for "first automoblie works" sounds good and it has it's history of how china used to name their factories or institutes unders numbers. they also have a decent logo to go with it. i'm very curious to their new red flag limo with will be used by hu jintao in this years 60th anniversary military parade.

another one is Great Wall auto.

I thought the name "Chery" was a mutilation of the word "Chevy".

Yes you have a point there.

BMW cars are affectionately referred to as Beamers, what would happen if a BYD car turned out to be disappointing, which can happen to the best, would some "Clever Dick" start referring to them as Bummers?
Therefore the old adage 'Whats in a Name', can be very important.

You mean Bimmers.

BMWs are not the most reliable cars in the world, yeah I know, I am a user. For the asking price, they should have be more trouble free than a Hyundai, but they aren't. But I never hear anyone call them Bummers though.

They say, some of the car names should really stand for this.

FORD --- Found On the Road Dead.

FIAT --- Fix It All the Time.

Until recent times Most of the Big V8 Races in Australia like Bathurst were dominated by GM
Dont know how it goes Stateside

Let me check the NASCAR Sprint Cup results from last year.

Ford 11 wins
Chevrolet(GM) 9 wins
Toyota 11 wins
Dodge(Chrysler) 3 wins

I dont know which Make won the overall series for 08, here but the Bathurst 1000, isnt a circuit race but has as much meaning in this neck of the woods, as Indy would have back stateside. and if one was only going to watch one race, this would be it.. Over the years its evolved from various classes down to a vV8 Supercars
GM against Ford. Currently iits GM 25 wins Ford 17wins., without checking to be 100% I think GM dominate the first 10 placings.

Now I remember GM's lemon acronym: Grand Mistake.

Was Honda participating in NASCAR or was that the Indy Car racing?
