Nine hundred reservists from the 35th Canadian Brigade Group (35 CBG) take part in Exercise Franchissement Audacieux on October 1, 2011 in Les Éboulements and Île-aux-Coudres municipalities, in the region of Charlevoix, QC.

The purpose of this exercise was to cross the St. Lawrence River aboard thirty assault inflatable boats to attack a fictional enemy located at the eastern tip of Île-aux-Coudres. The simulation of fighting resulted in different scenarios ranging from ambushes to confrontation, punctuated by explosions.

Exercise MAPLE RESOLVE 1101 (Ex MR1101) was conducted from October 1 to 28, 2011, in the training areas at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta.

Ex MR1101 is a military training activity that focuses on combined arms teams. The exercise has a mandate to provide high-level training to nearly 400 troops. The troops are supported by more than 900 vehicles. This makes the exercise the largest in the history of the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre.

Maj John Fisher, CCTM-A, OP ATTENTION

"My name is Major John Fisher and am currently serving with the Canadian Contribution Training Mission – Afghanistan. I arrived in Kabul in October, and work as an advisor to Afghan National Army training staff at the ANA’s Command and Staff College. My home unit is the King’s Own Calgary Regiment".



"On Remembrance Day, I think of the fallen from previous Afghanistan tours. The recent loss of Master Cpl. Byron Greff drives home the point that we need to be vigilant but at the same time we must also be sure to carry on with our mission".

The 3rd Bataillon of the Royal 22e Régiment (3 R22R) participate in an exercise in the training areas Valcartier, QC, on the December 1st 2011. During the exercise NMC3, the members of 3 R22R parachuted from a griffon helicopter, executed at 13 km march, as well as an platoon attack with live ammunition and completed a casualty evacuation (CASEVAC).

HMCS Vancouver marked the end of her mission by flying the ship’s Battle Ensign during her transit though the Strait of Gibraltar thus leaving the Operation area of the Mediterranean Sea. HMCS Vancouver will conduct a long transit back to Esquimalt, British Columbia.

Operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOUR is a NATO maritime operation. It operates in the Mediterranean Sea to prevent the movement of terrorists or weapons of mass destruction, and enhance the security of shipping in general.

HMCS Vancouver’s tasks while on Operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOUR include locating, tracking, and reporting ‘vessels of interest’, suspected of involvement in terrorism. Although their mandate is limited to detection and deterrence of activities related to terrorism, the NATO fleet deployed on Operation Active Endeavour has enhanced security and stability in the Mediterranean Sea to the considerable benefit of trade and commerce.

Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Charlottetown departs Halifax harbour for the Mediterranean Sea where it will participate in the NATO-led Operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOUR, tasked with finding and boarding ships suspected of participating in terrorism.

Approximately 250 sailors including a CH-124 Sea King helicopter detachment will be on board the ship.
