If he is willing to remove gun bans I would tolerate him.
I wish, my T81 yearns for freedom. Unfortunately I don’t see it happening. Guns are a fringe issue, basically a prop for political performance. Unless Carney’s strategists see unbanning some of the guns as strengthening his position away from Trudeau to appeal to left leaning conservatives (a real thing here for you non-Canadians), it will likely remain in place as to not alienate the “libtard” types.

Just when I though trudeau redeemed himself he does this, fuck you, to the entire firearms community by banning nearly all surplus semi autos. thank god the first nations once again saved the SKS
I get the sense that Turdoo is a ban all guns type of guy. To be fair, it makes sense from a logic standpoint, like why are some guns banned, but others not? However, as you mentioned, there are significant Liberal supporters like First Nations which actually depend on firearms to live, so he does this salami slicing BS.

As I said, firearms legislation is just a prop/virtue signalling here. You aren't old enough for this, but the old Liberal government of the 90's had this big initial fanfare to create the long gun registry, banned AKs, FALs and some other guns. At this time, there was some legitimate concerns due to the Polytechnique mass shooting. Most of it was pretty common sense stuff, so it was the framework for the next 20 years, gun control basically became a non-issue and the registry withered and eventually put down by the Harper conservatives without much opposition (and very little interest to bring it back).

Then all the mass shootings started to come back en vogue in the US in the 2000s and it spawned this kind of gun-ban obsessed Liberal like Turdoo. He used every single mass shooting to further his agenda. For example he banned the AR-15 after the NS mass shootings even though an AR-15 was not even used. It was alleged that he asked if it was used to use it as a pretense to ban it immediately.

What's the reality? 90% of the guns used in crime are from the US, so statistically, even a total gun ban would not make a significant difference in crime. Basically all Canadians know this, which is why gun control has not been a major issue since the 90's. So all these bans are just his personal agenda.

Fair enough, the problem is that most of the time the government targets legal gun owners (Like myself because I also have a PAL) instead of the illegal guns that litterlly comes from the US. it dosen't even help that most journalist know nothing about guns because there is no such thing as an assault weapons because all guns pretty much are just a trigger, action and barrel and thats it. The US army new firearms programs is basiclly reinventing the wheel claiming it to be very advanced when it's the same shit all over again.

It can't be helped because it's just his own personal vendetta. I don't even blame journalists because gun control is just simply a non-issue in Canada. He banned the "SCARY" AR-15 and still it didn't save himself politically because no one cares for it (and not enough people care against it). It's just his own personal crusade and legal gun owners suffer for it.
