A dastardly attack by the terrorist in London. Extremists have no qualms in killing innocent people. They must be dealt with expeditiously and effectively. Round them up and deal with these murderers & their supporters - use effective methods of interrogation to obtain info to prevent further carnage. Good Police & Security cooperation among countries are essential, as terrorists/extremists can carry out cross-border activities. We in Asia must be on the alert as it could happen in our region/individual countries.

If nothing else, these photos should help dispel the idea that British Police areall unarmed and ineffective. We don't arm the majority, but those we do (the Armed Response Teams) are trained to a far higher standard than most counties' rank and file cops and they are armed to the teeth, the preferred weapons being H&K MP5s (in common with the SAS), G36 Assault Rifles and Sig 9mm Pistols. I remember the first time I saw armed police in the flesh, about fifteen years ago, I was having a meal in a Motorway service station in Essex and two officers walked past with full body armour and pistols holstered. Just stopped for a break and had their meals in hand. The kind of sight Americans probably see every day, and we see on TV a lot, but to see in person those weapons sent a shiver down me. We're still not used to seeing guns in this country, a situation I'm still proud of.
I am so glad these lunatics couldn't just walk into a local supermarket and buy some AR-15s over the counter, no questions asked. Just think how much damage they could have done if that was the case...

Humm..I don't know of any supermarket anywhere I ever lived where a person could just walk in and buy a weapon. Perhaps somewhere on earth what you describe can occur.
In the US the Gun Control Act of 1968 & The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993 (Brady Act) require require background checks on firearms purchases in the US from licensed weapons dealers.

I hate seeing EU police armed up with assault weapons, body armor and wearing masks, my local cops come and go at school, at the store, they only wear a Glock or S&W M&P, nobody notices because its not a big deal.
But seeing all those special assault units reminds me of the run-up to WWII, the Gestapo and Storm Troopers....

He stands behind our military and law enforcement, they are not the bad guys and girls, they are here to "protect and serve" and they take that vow seriously, our military swears to "defend the constitution", they take that vow seriously as well.

Believe it or not, I have no problem with people owning guns. That is a matter of personal choice. I personally believe that as a civilian, if in danger my best strategy is to remove myself from that threat and leave it to the professionals (Police) to deal with said danger. This isn't the wild west in the UK. For more than a century there was an unwritten and unspoken agreement between the Police in the UK and the 'Criminal Fraternity' that Guns were not to be used, as this would lead to escalation on both sides. There were exceptions of course, and the courts reflected this by enforcing much heavier sentences on those who used guns in robberies (and still do) for example. This is why we have Armed Response Teams, usually two highly trained firearms officers in a police cruiser equipped with all the 'tools of the trade' to deal with any villains who think bringing a sawn off shotgun is a clever idea. Basically it has been for decades a case of 'you bring guns to the party, we'll bring more and better guns to the party.
A statistic I heard last year illustrates this; in one American state in one month a couple of years back there were something like 111 shootings by police officers (no reasons given, just the overall number). By comparison the number of shootings involving the entire UK Police force (for a nation with roughly one sixth the population of the USA) was 52... for the ENTIRE 20th Century! It's a different culture to be sure. We value it like that. Guns are something we see on TV, at the movies, in the newspapers. We do not expect or want to see them up close and personal, or in our homes or on our streets. Certainly not in supermarkets. Terrorists here have to make do with other weapons, like knives, IEDs and just ramming people with cars. They can still cause outrages as we saw yesterday, but their effectiveness is severely curtailed by not having access to guns.
Terrorism isn't a new phenomenon to us. I grew up in the 70s under the threat of Irish terrorism, paid for in the main by the good people of Boston whose contributions to the 'cause' were well publicised. Thanks for that. I was taught to be on the lookout for suspicious packages at the same time I was learning my ABCs. Our security services have had decades of experience dealing with these problems, which is why we suffer so few attacks. It's only the 'Lone Wolf' that has any hope of initiating an attack these days, if a group tries to organise anything GCHQ will know about it. That's what they do, they don't wire tap Presidential candidates in other countries...especially not ones who broadcast their every thought on twitter all the time!

Not here in Iowa or many other states. In fact it has become common to see armed persons here in Iowa since the law was changed in 2011.
Generally lawful citizens are not committing gun crimes.
Dang, might as well paint a "bullseye" on the those poor officers??? basic blue is still the order of the day, unless you're on traffic detail?? and hang some weapons on those poor Po Po! please, we don't need any more innocent victims!
Dang AFB! I was thinking the same thing.. those covers may as well be targets..and those yellow traffic guard vest..oh my oh my!...solid blue or black is better IMO....and I realize there is little gun violence in the UK.
