I totally agree with Obi Wan. I live in the US, but my family is of Irish heritage, I'm fairly certain that some of my relatives way back when were in the IRA or organizations like it way way back in the old days.

Even so I have to say that while the Republicans in Northern Ireland maybe had legitimate greivances once, they have achieved everything they could reasonably want, as Obi Wan said. The ones that hold out are really just criminals looking to cloak their money-motivated activites in political ideas, so that they can retain a bit of support. Killing British soldiers is at this point something done by violent people for their thrills, or done so that they can keep up the lie that there is some sort of struggle against an occupier going on, and use that lie to further their criminal enterprises.

As an Irish American, I can say that while Padrig Pierce said that "Ireland unfree will never be at peace", Ireland today is free. All anyone reasonable wants is the peace as well.

British police confront protestors near the Bank of England in the City of London, Wednesday April 1, 2009, as thousands of demonstrators converged on the centre of the city to protest against the G20 scheduled for April 2. The protesters thenattacked a bank in an anti-capitalist riot in the British capital.

Why is it that European anti-capitalist protesters always look like skinheads? Or is it because the ones that confront the Police are thugs?

I found some pictures from the anti-anti-capitalist protest (or maybe you would read that as pro-capitalist protest).

Now why was it these chaps were able to protest without causing any trouble?

Now why was it these chaps were able to protest without causing any trouble?

Because they are there to make a statement and not start a riot. Simple.
