New U.S. Marine Corps recruits of Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, and Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, make a phone call home to inform family or friends that they have arrived safely on Parris Island, S.C., for recruit training July 16, 2018. Each recruit will get in contact with either their next-of-kin, or their recruiter upon arrival on the depot. If they cannot contact either at the time, they will receive another chance later in training. Delta and Papa Company are scheduled to graduate Oct. 12, 2018. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
