akinkhoo said:how can we about missile without taking into consideration their range.
here is my comical view:
Kongo would already be under fire before it manage to get in range and
the Sovremenny would have escape from battle after it lanuch all its missiles.
i don't believe either will be successful at killing each other.
it is like 1 person is carrying a shotgun and the other a sniper with 8 bullets.
if the 8 bullet is neutralized by aegis, the rifleman is deadmeat and will runoff
before the shotgunner get in range to pump him full of lead!
so the BVR ability of the Sovremenny is extremely important faction.
if the shotgunner get close to the sinper before he can see = dead sinper...
It is not that simple, in a Kongo vs Sovremenny scenario, both vessels need OTH targeting to take advantage of the ranges of their ASM. In this regard, the Sov, has an advantage (the Kongo does not has a hanger - however, it usually sails with an accompanying DDH).
Secondly, the OTH targeting helo needs to be closer to the Kongo, since its low radar cross section, lowers the effective range of its surface search radar. This fact, coupled with the long range of the SM2 = dead helo. We are back to our OTH targeting problem. I conclude that the engagement range is within the horizon.
The Sov design is a throw back to the Soviet Battle of the first Salvo strategy. It does not possess endurance. Once its Sunburn are fired, it's usefulness goes down signifantly. Here lies the superiority of the Kongo. It has longer staying power.
