Ballistic Missiles, are they a solution to China lack of aerial tankers?

Keep in mind that (most) people here in the West only belive what they want to hear. Media exists to sell stories and make profits, truth comes a distant second. So if people want to hear how far behind and inferior China is, then that's what the media will write, print and show. Doesn't matter if it's not the truth.

Case in point, remember the 'Saving Private Lindsay' episode from the Iraq war? Large portion of the US populace actually chose to ignore the truth (where it was readily available) and believe the myth and the lies because it sounded better.

I also felt that the article underestimate Chinese capabilities quite a bit, but still PLAAF lack of aerial refueling tankers is quite a concern, because it will limit PLAAF options for long range operations.

That article is garbage, but remember the PLAAF is facing a situation that, if to catch up, it'd need a total overhaul that, in short, throw away tons of existing hardware that's at least one generation behind the curve, mostly two; and have to deal with re-shaping its men to new doctrines of air and combined warfare; plus to overhaul the national defense strategy that's largely reactionary in nature, yet any move towards more "proactive" direction will be branded as aggression by its neighbours, make the regional arms race goes from hot to red-hot.

But mostly, it's about money - PLAAF ain't the only branch of the PLA that urgently need - and going through - hardware overhauls. Since all branches are making their accelerated effort of catching-ups, there'll be budgetary constraints, so without a budget like the US have, suitable hardware and platforms will take time to be introduced.

So for the time being their offensive punch will still need to rely on ballistic missiles, which are still technically more difficult to intercept; the newer addition of the cruise missiles allows for a more precise strike option without risking the air crew to harm, as do the likes of US or other major superpowers fielding their own cruise missiles in their strike options.

Because traitors feel the most desperate need to try to prove their loyalty and devotion to their new masters, and the only way they know how to do that is to be as rabidly opposed to those who they betrayed as possible.

I also suspect people like Gordon Chang are deeply racist and are big time followers of white supremacist and hate their own skin. If there was an operation they can have to make themselves white, I bet you every penny I own they would be first in line.

you never know, he (Gordon Chang) maybe in PLA payrol, intentionally to spread wrong info of PLA

Anti Chinese? Or perhaps anti Chinese communist party government? Gordon Chang also comments alot on North Korean affairs.

anyway I don't think Axe is onto something here. He's quite frankly fluff from my view. Aircraft have yet to be replaced by missiles and I just don't see it as a possibility of just buying missiles missiles more missiles oh and we have some left over cash so a few more missiles please. The PLAAF does need tankers and bad.

Don't fall for it man.. Don't give his ideas a thought, or you'll fall for his traps and grow a tumor somewhere..

Unfortunately this kind of behavior is prevalent among the younger overseas born Chinese in where I live, it is sad to see, but I hope as China develop further their attitude will change

Well there's also things China needs to change..but the focus here is about those who are China-bashing these days have to do with cultural differences and the notions of supremacy that's been injected into them by the society, their families, peers, and even amongst themselves.

For example, a local-born may cry Asian pride, but contempt new immigrants because they can't speak English fluently, then feel superior when they visit Asia. It's hypocritical because even though they "feel" they are "proud" of their roots, they feel themselves are the new generation and the "modernized" ones..which is actually a very ignorant sentiment. Plus, why would you look down on your own(all for the wrong reasons) if you're really proud of your own roots?

And of course nothing beats hating "Communist" China. Surely you can't go wrong with hating something that's "Communist" and "abusers of human rights", right? These people, who enjoys stepping on others for the sense of feeling better themselves, thirst to feel themselves superior in every sense, whether morally or ability-wise. This is something I coin "moral discrimination" or "ability discrimination" (to feel you're better than someone morally or being more capable..which ultimately is the biggest sense for internal gratification to one's own ego)

Anyway, Gordan Chang doesn't really deserve our attention, but I feel it's also time for us to move on and stop bashing him. It's like bashing Hitler...sure we can do it all day and makes us feel good about ourselves and no one will stop us because this target is a "safe, politically-correct pinata")..but do it enough and we just lower our own class and personal character. Totally not worth it for someone like that.

To me I think it's more about training. PLA's hardware is catching up, but training-wise, PLA can never have enough. In fact, no standing armies can ever have enough training, and this is especially for the PLA because as PLA finds itself seeing new hardware and technology entering its arsenal, all of its doctrines, management, governance will have to evolve and take new shape. Even then, those are just learning curves for further evolution..that will keep on repeating itself until the PLA's doctrines mature completely with the new matured technology and battle plans. And at the same time, time doesn't wait, so new political outlooks, conflicts, geopolitical needs, opposing competitions, new technological innovations will continue to happen, and the PLA will find itself revising over and over as it molds better and better for the needs of the country. (See it like a medial student who's trying to study to become a doctor. While he's doing his main studies, he needs to continue to stay in the loop of what's new in the medical industries, while practising and training over and over until he develops his own skill set and how to do things and fitting the needs of his workplace.

Thank you for your information, I didn't know that the article's author credibility is suspect, that's why I wondered that he seemed to underestimate PLA a bit too much

Not just him. Basically most of the West, especially those so-called "analysts". People in this forum almost never refers to Western articles on the PLA because it's way worse than wikipedia. Reading articles on the PLA written by the West is almost the same as taking a lot of cyanide with a shot of sewer water.
