) on 81.cn about border guards (护边员) and in it, qutoes
相比于边防连队驻地,护边员执勤哨所往往更加靠近边防线
Compared with the station of the border guard company (PLA), the duty post of the border guards (the one we are talking about) is often closer to the border defense line
So apparently there are two parts to China's border control system, one‘s’ the border guards who belong to the PLA and the one are not, which is also in the article it cites
“北疆冬季风大,白天都极少有车辆在边境线出现,更别说晚上了。。。他迅速向边防连队报告情况,而后关闭车灯,发动摩托车只身潜入漆黑的草原深处,隐蔽跟踪可疑车辆动向 。。。不见车的踪迹。。。这时,时任边防连连长张锋带着官兵赶来了。他们又一起沿着边防线巡查
"Northern Xinjiang is very windy in winter, and there are very few vehicles on the border during the day, let alone at night... He quickly reported the situation to the border guard company, then turned off the lights, started his motorcycle and dived into the dark grassland depths alone, Covertly tracking the movement of suspicious vehicles...there was no trace of the vehicle...At this time, Zhang Feng, the commander of the frontier defense company at the time, came with officers and soldiers. They patrolled along the border defense line together
In these sections we can conclude that the border guards (not the PLA) will be reaching farther than the PLA's border troops, as they play the eyes of them and to suspicions, then PLA will play a role in the quick reaction force to respond to any reports, but do we know if the PLA themself conducts any basic patrols on a regular basis? of course, the answer is yes, but to what extent? I expects pla or pap will take over the border guard (none pla) role in harsh environments, but what about the areas where the Border Guard is present? We have evidence that the PLA will check them on a monthly basis, but again, in what extent? How many areas does one border guard is in charge of? if it's small, then there's literally no point on deploying them, because in the same evidence, I remember checking on the border guards is just part of the patrol mission, which means they still have to do the patrols themselves, but it didn't shows how often or how many distances the patrol covers, so, it's still pretty hard to tell.

On the other hand, I know next to nothing about things like border control, how do militias like l the Border Guard we're talking about gets information about potential situations? through surveillance equipment? Or just patrolling around? Do we have any previous examples to learn from? Like in the Middle East? I heard that the border war between Hezbollah and Israel has been very hot for the past few decades. Or do we know if there is a similar system to the Chinese border system?

PS: I did some research on the border guards and it turns out they are belonged and employed by the local police border department

是指公安边防部门统一聘用、管理和使用,协助公安边防部门维护边境地区治安秩序,加强边境防控和治安管控,预防和制止边境地区违法犯罪活动的群众性治安联防组织
Refers to the mass public security joint defense organization that is uniformly employed, managed and used by the public security frontier defense department to assist the public security frontier defense department to maintain the law and order in border areas, strengthen border prevention and control and public security control, and prevent and stop illegal and criminal activities in border areas

But they are neither policemen nor auxiliary policemen, their title is simply "Border Guards"

After doing some research, I believe that picture is from an old 2011 TV series called, “我是特种兵”/“I am a special forces soldier”. It is not a photo of actual sof personal.

Special Forces are classified.
In what way? Are you talking about the classification of their operational tempo and operational history? Or are you talking about their pictures and media coverage? Sorry for sounding sharp, but you need to be specific.

Hi, appreciate if anyone can help with this question:

Have any vehicles in the contemporary inventory other than the 05-series (ZBD/ZLTs) demonstrated the ability to swim from ship-to-shore for the purposes of amphibious assaults?

*apologies for double post - unsure if this goes in the army or naval forum

Well there may be two but these are well on their way out, if not already retired.

The first is the Type 63A amphibious light tank:

The second is the amphibious version of the Type 63 APC: (I can't find more pictures of this thing right now but trust me it's fking hideous and uses wut I'm pretty sure are motorboat engines to propell itself in the water.)

Note that while they are both called the Type 63, they are not from the same family of vehicles.

Hope this helps.
