The turret style of this tank look a bit like the LeClerc where the center of the turret, where the gun is at is a bit taller than both side of the of the turret. I wonder if it is to provide a higher slope angle compare to type 96 and 99 style turret

Personally I am a bit disappointed that it cannot intercept kinetic rounds.

Also the 20degree vertical coverage is hardly adequate to shield the tank from top down attack ATGM like javelin.

Could be but I think it's probably due to the fact that it's bustle is lager than the average Chinese tank and in order to not create a too large overhang over the engine deck, the turret is shifted a bit more to the front.

It meant to be exported as it has to be cheap. Not sure about the PLA version
They should have no problem adding vertical protection all they have to do is add radar that look upward and add the munition pointed upward
As to defeating kinetic energy there is only 1 system now in production that can do that it is israeli Iron fist. But even there it is not mature yet . they are talking of combining Iron fist with Trophy of elbit



The main drawback I can see is using AHEAD munition It will spray hundred of projectile ball in front of the tank to intercept the ATGM. But what happened if there is infantry soldier behind the tank Can't foreclose stray ball hitting friendly soldier
