I heard a lot of people compare Uncharted Waters to Sid Meier's Pirates! which was rereleased in '04 but nothing I know that is recent.

Does anyone else here play TBS (Turn Based Strategy)? I was deeply engrossed into X-Com up until time for studying began.

Can't believe no one mention Supreme Commander yet. Huge scale, you can have multiple battles going on at once in far corners of the map. In some large maps it would take up to 15 minutes for unit to walk from one side to the other.

Never quite got into...I tried but I couldn't get into it. I was a big fan of its spiritual predecessor Total Annihilation though.

yes, Jagged Alliance 2 !,
hammer and sickle ! (very difficult, read online walkthrough to finish it)
silent storm (gameplay like hammer and sickle, but different story and able to ride robot/become sort of ironman latter in the game)
