While the flight simulation in terms of graphics is very desriable, i was looking at it from another aspect. That is simulation of various performance parameters based on avilable data in open source of any jet(engineering simulation as opposed to game simulation). There is another software called STK (Analytics graphics) that does a great job of this (including RCS analysis and stealth) but alas it's proprietary. Also Flight gear is only for civilian aircrafts so far. It's not limited for military aircraft but i guess that would require programming. Are you a programmer? I am and if some of us can collaborate on somthing along the lines maybe some thing substantive could be achieved.

(day dreaming!!)

Flightgear do have fighter a/c (like A10) in its latest version (same version that crashed my system:rofl: ).

and i gave referance of DID not because of its cool graphics but because of its hard core play. it has no music, no shit story line, every thing is pure professional. theye actually ended up making real flight sims for some airforce too.

but during 1999/2000 infotech crash this company went down too.

yeah pal, i am a programmer. but to venture into these grounds we need to have time, a lot of time :). I tried it once but its pretty time consuming. and to develop over these half baked sims is just waste of time. i am more into animation (Maya) and info tech.

but games these days do come with their API and source code that can be used to further develop new levels, like Half Life 2.

if you guys want there is one missile simulation software available on BR, made by some indian geek. dont mind the indian chest beating that it shows in disclaimer. technically its cool, emulates all flight parameters. its not a graphical sim but just displays different flight parameters. Only for advance level . not a game.

In train sim., you can only perform such stunts with frieght trains, you can not uncouple passinger trains because they are all high speed trains, I derail high speed trains by selecting a snowy environment and going at max speed eventually the train slips off the track and flips over! You dont really need joysticks for flight sims. They are just good to have around since you can control the plane more easily. Most flight sims allow you to use the arrow keys to fly the plane.

I know what you mean. I have Battlefeild 1942, and without a joystick it is impossible to efectively fly the planes as well as I probably could. Alot of the older flight sim games however, way back when I had an IBM computer around 95 said that they would not work without a joystick. I imagine that they are a bit more flexible now.

Actually Flight Gear has been used by alot of companies as well as simulation of LCA naval version. For space vehicles/staellites/rockets there are very extensive and good softwares available
NASA JPL lab's software,WinORBIT one more i forgot the name.
