American Economics Thread

He used to work in AWS side. I’ll send him this info. Thanks.
So distributed systems? That should be relatively in demand. Do you know if he is struggling getting to the interview stage or clearing his interviews? Specifically JP Morgan, Capital One, and American Express have been hiring a lot here in recent months.

He is originally from China so I wonder if the behavior portion of the interview is what he is struggling with. Don’t know the specifics.

The market is flooded with Indian engineers who are highly skilled at talking up their impact when in reality they have made zero impact in their orgs. On other hand, Chinese engineers tend to be more comfortable with actually making an impact than talking about it. If he's had several interviews already, he should analyze common behavioral questions he's been asked and prepare responses in STAR format ahead of time. Rather than simply answering the question, he needs to align his reponses with sending the signals the interviewer is looking for and matching up with the company's "cultural values." Unfortunately in current market 50% of interview is all about acting/selling yourself.

So many Wall Street fat cats do little more than collecting risk-free interest payments, in cahoots with the Fed.
When rates were lower, the meme was that “Wall Street far cats” do nothing but buy stocks. Fwiw, the banks on the list do not prefer to use the overnight repo because they would rather loan in the riskier market for higher rates and the money market funds are by asset managers who manage money on behalf of other people’s accounts (mostly people use MMFs as checkings and savings accounts).

The U.S. economy has been nothing but continuously strong post-pandemic

Ah, more rando Twitter dudes. Yeah, the US economy has been strong compared to old languishing Western economies that were forced to drink American poison, but incredibly weak compared to China's, the main rival. But oh, that's not comparable, right? LOL You're damn right it's not, comparing an old American donkey against a Chinese race horse. Hey, my grandma has been continuously strong since her hip surgery; next week, she's medically cleared for walking without a stroller again, which, according to her doctor, is an incredibly fast recovery for a 92 year old.

The latest figures show the U.S. economy is growing at a scorching 3.2% YoY, which is very fast for a developed economy. On the other hand, the latest data is still subject to at least one more revision.

Also, from the start of the pandemic until the end of 2023, U.S. GDP grew at an average rate of 2% per annum, which is more or less normal performance, and is actually slower than it's rate of growth in 2012-2019. So regardless of what assumptions the CBO put into its model in 2019, U.S. growth was not exceptionally strong in the early 2020s.
