and on the subject of the JMSDF

years ago they were talking with RN as they have somer serious flat decks of their own

2x Iuzmo Class
2 x Hyuga Class
3 x Osumi Class

as Royal Navy is really the becoming the pioneer of the F35+ Ski Jump since they are the first to do this

now all that experience can be put into action to train other navies of the world

this is a good income stream and raises the profile of the RN further

no doubt the Japanese will be interested in this niche

French President Emmanuel Macron today officially green lighted the construction of a new nuclear-powered aircraft carrier as part of the PANG program. The future flag ship of the Marine Nationale is intended to replace the existing "Charles de Gaulle" around 2038.

I'm glad to see that France is finally progressing on their new aircraft carrier. However, I think it's a mistake to make it nuclear-powered. That will make the cost much higher, and it would have been best if Paris had aimed to spend more overall but aimed for two conventionally-powered carriers that would have been cheaper per unit.

Replacing CDG is important but building just one would lead the MN in the same situation where it is now, unable to ensure it always has a carrier available.

Once you go Nuke you'll hardly go back. I guess they just fell in love with the endurance.

France already has the nuclear reactor technology from their submarine program. It is just a matter of manufacturing a couple more units.
The CdG has a lot of issues but the reactor has been the least of them I think.
At most you can complain about the refuel periods, which wouldn't have been an issue had they made more carriers.

And they won't be able to build more carriers if they continue to make them Nuclear! The price tag for that particular technology will kill any sister ships. It's why we rejected it. Two ships were more important than long range, which we achieve via other means.
