The official crest of the future Ford class CVN USS John F Kennedy (CVN 79) has been revealed.



Capt. Todd Marzano, commanding officer, Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) and his crew officially unveiled the seal of the US Navy's second Ford-class aircraft carrier currently under construction at Newport News Shipbuilding on Nov. 6, 2019.

The seal is crafted to integrate elements that honor President John F. Kennedy, his service to the Navy, and his vision for space exploration.

It features 35 stars located around the outer ring that represent John F. Kennedy as our nation's 35th president. The 35th star is positioned after his middle initial and the two gold stars placed between CVN and the number 79 symbolize the fact that this is the second aircraft carrier bearing his name and legacy.

The Roman numeral "CIX" or 109, is a tribute to President Kennedy's heroic naval service as commander of Patrol Boat 109 in the South Pacific. Additionally, the moon backdrop represents President Kennedy's instrumental role in the nation's space program.

There are 8 onboard that we know of. Most in a picture to date is 6. I posted the pic of this on pg. 545 of the thread.

Listen guys. And LHA or LHD cannot do what a CVN can do. Period. I just does not have the weapons capacity or eyes in the sky, E2-C/D Hawkeye and no dedicated tanker. A capable ship? Yes! But not a CVN.

yes and that’s why I said “close” to but never same

when it comes to sortie rates, bombs on target and sustained air oops nothing comes close to a fully blown carrier

but with F35B in SEAD role and MV22 as tanker and the capability’s they bring is huge leap forward in range and payload the gap between amphibious assault and carrier has never been smaller

True..but we are still waiting for that to be fully operational and deployed. the system has been delayed long enough.

can't find quickly if VARS has been funded I mean by the Pentagon

your link says "The Corps expects its new refueling system to be operational by fiscal year 2019." and FY2019 just ended

This is absolutely true.
However it should be pointed out that currently carriers lack a dedicated tanker. The KS3 and KA6 are both out it the boneyards. Boeing’s MQ25 is still in development not ready for prime time.
Tanking is done either by ground based tankers or off Buddy stores F/A18E.

long term the Marines have a requirement for a V22 Drone under MUX. That still won’t be for a while.
