A useful Tweet from CO Commando Helicopter Force (CHF) at Yeovilton earlier today. He confirms that we shall see some (green) Merlin Mk3s going aboard HMS QE for this immiment Merlin trials and FOST Training period. They will be providing the helicopter logisitic support (as 820NAS did on the previous ship's trials phases).Expect to see 2 (grey) ASW Merlin HM2s aboard too, as they are the specially instumented aircraft which will be (test) flying all the various test point...s to help generate the Merlin/HMS QE Ship Helicopter Operating Limitations (SHOL) clearance.
Don't be too mislead by CO CHF's 3 acronyms he has put up in his tweet. These are the roles the onbaord CHF Merlins will perform on operational deployments and voyages in the future. More of that very soon on here, as will be our article on the sort of trials work and why the Merlin HM2s will be carrtying out.
