Yes.

Japan has those three Osumi LPDs that can take the LCACs, not to mention the AAV7s.

The JMSDF is going to have a very nice amphibious and air assault capability with the Osumis, Hyugas, and Izomos.

I have always been surprised that the JMSDF dd not have a few smaller LST or type vessels. As it is, with one Osumi and one Hyuga dedicate to amphibious and air assault, the JMSDF could place a credible landing force ashore.

As I understand, the Osumi and Hyuga can each carry, in addition to their crews, about 350 troops. Is this correct?

Yes...I believe the article was a little to all inclusive. they were clearly talking about steam catapults.

But even then, it is not the case. The Nimitz class carriers are going to be around, first ten of them and then ultimately the last one, using steam catapults for the next 50 years or so.

John F. Kennedy will be the second U.S. Navy ship to bear the name of the 35th President. Crew members who served on the first John F. Kennedy attended and were recognized during the ceremony. To conclude the event, Rear Adm. Earl Yates, the first commanding officer of CV 67, signaled crane operators to lift the aircraft carrier’s engine room No. 2 unit into the dry dock while more than 1,500 guests watched.

Hehehe...since the US Marines F-35Bs are operational now...why not cross deck with those until the RNs F-35Bs are available.

That way they would be using the same aircraft that they would fly.
