I was obviously describing what had happened in the pub, and in that part of my post I didn't yet describe the specifics of onboard systems (by the way I then mentioned the claim of a ludicrously slow network; ignored here, as I expected)

Just in case any of you are concerned about the quality of the paint on the flight deck. She's coming back into Rosyth after 5 weeks at sea for a paint job. Yes she'll go back into dry dock for a period, which means POW will be moved to the fitting out berth where QE was previously.

What does an average Joe know about systems used in various industries or army? Those aren't your desktop systems that you use everyday. It is well known that US Army is using Cold War era designs within it's structure and they aren't moving away from that. BAE could only adapt something as I doubt they have money and resources to make something from the scratch. Besides,
Shared Infrastructure is an innovative hardware solution that can host software from multiple technology providers on a single system.
I guess, WinXP based solutions as well ;)

The deck doesn't melt, but the overheating can lead to structural problems over time. AFAIK, the Thermion coating of the QEC deck is certainly all down the portside of the deck where the runway is and all the landing spots are. It probably covers the full width of the flight deck aft of the 2nd island, as precious RN practice has been to use all of the aft flight deck for landing as and when required. The dark area on Wasp was for trials purposes hence only a small area was covered, also the colour of the coating will henceforward be the same as the rest of the flight deck markings so looking for dark patches won't help!

In Royal Navy service the S1850M radar is known as type 1046. On the type 45 DDGs the Sampson radar is known as type 1045 officially. S1850M is a commercial designation, not a service one.

Numbers of aircraft that can be carried are dependent on their size and spot factor. Sea Harriers were a lot smaller than Phantoms, Buccaneer and Sea Vixens, so Hermes for example could carry a larger number of Shars and Helos in 1982 than she could carry fixed wing types in the sixties. Air Group composition will have a big effect on the numbers QE carries in future.

normaly good Navies have a readiness of 65 - 70 % ; 2/3 so do 13 MSC for RN in this case

In more with 7 SSN in fact for some years 6 - 7 always one disponible for the CV TF and no problems also for Repl Ships RFA have now 5 but going for few for 9 in addition except 2 Fort Austin all big 30000 + tons and can provide a big qty of logistic.

How many day she can operated her CAW without refueling ? US CVN 15 days but not in high intensity operations/ big number of sorties.
