JEFF ,is her undercarriage meaty enough??

Aksha, I don't believe Jeff saw your question, but yes, it is a very robust gear, the mains are very beefy, big fat inverted oleo struts, like the front forks on my GSXR-1000, looks like they have 8"-14" inches of travel, so yes they are plenty beefy, now on to that nose wheel, the single tire is not a problem, the carrier surface is very firm, of much more importance please note the double yoke strut, as opposed to a single yoke strut on other aircraft. That double yoke is nearly twice as strong as the single yoke, that big beefy axle runs all the way through the tire and is anchored on both ends by the heavy yoke! So yes it is plenty beefy, prolly no way to put a second tire in the gear well in any case???? brat;);)

A nice sense of the operational tempo of a "no kidding" strike operation on a US CVN. Everyone knows his job and doing it well.......

Based on that picture right there, and the relative size and weight of the LCA...I would say yes, absolutley.

I also have to believe at this point that the IN knows its business and will ensure that they are.

Turkey wants to build its own aircraft carrier. This was decided on Tuesday in Ankara, the National Security Council at the last meeting.
In the, under the chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held meeting of the National Security Council, a far-reaching military decision was made. Turkey wants to 2019 the first aircraft carrier homemade handed over to the Navy's inventory.
The spa located already in active planning dock landing with a helicopter platform (LPD), will now be built as an aircraft carrier with a plan revision.
The military dock landing with a helicopter platform was initially intended for the transport and the use of occupation, amphibious vehicles, and helicopters operating Turkish naval units.
Now, should by installing a tilting by 12 percent starting ramp (ski-jump method) built the LPD ship as an aircraft carrier. The ski-jump method allows aircraft, with only half the normal starting Bahnes to withdraw. On the ship, the new combat aircraft of the type F-35 will be deployed.
This gives the Turkish navy first opportunity with a crew of 700 soldiers in global crisis areas to operate independently. With a fully equipped hospital in the aircraft carrier and its use in natural disaster areas should be possible.

Great news that Turkey is going down this road and definitely not a suprise that's why they picked the Spanish design as did Austrialia because the Spanish design has a ski jump and can expand operational envelope for the F35B

Turkey is building a large and very capable amphibious assault force and I believe in future they will have one of the best power projection capabilitys when it comes to amphibious assault

If they can add fixed wing fighter aircraft capability we are now talking about the ability to carry out recon DEAD, SEAD and ground attack missions

The results will be limited with say just 6 x F35B doing and a modest attack force but will enhance Turkey's ability to project power

Personally I hope they build a series of LHD specific for various roles and establish a true marine expeditionary force for blue water operations post 2020

Thales to upgrade fire control system on French Navy Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier
RkqDjWf.jpg

On behalf of the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA), the Joint Armaments Cooperation Organisation (OCCAr) has awarded Thales a contract to upgrade the fire control system for the anti-air missiles deployed by the French Navy's Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier. The new equipment will be installed as part of the refit planned in 2018. Work will be completed when the Charles de Gaulle returns to active service.

Good news, but when will they get the 2nd aircraft carrier? Having one carrier doesn't give the capability or credibility to do the job whenever they need. It will soon be out of service until 2018, and France doesn't have 2nd carrier to fill that gap.

Why does Turkey seek to acquire a significant amphibious power projection capability in light of the prospect offered by LHD/F35?

My understanding with Australia is that the military establishment is having a hard time justifying the power projection capability offered in view of the cost and the somewhat limited capability once the practical issues and potentially limited sortie rates that can reasonably be generated.

The addition of even six F-35Bs to such a vessel will grant the user (of whatever nationality) some significant benefits and capabilities:

1) They will be able to offer their own strong CAS to any force they land.
2) They will be able to provide more self-defense for the capitol vessel itself
3) They will be able to do these things far from their own ground based air.
4) They will offer the political leadership more options for addressing crisis.

All of these are very worthwhile things to have if you can afford them and I am sure...if indeed Turkey goes down such a road for their LHD, which I am not sure has been verified...bit if they have, or if they do, I am sure that they will have weighed the cost vs. the benefit and made their decision accordingly.
