I have a question. What is the maximum number of aircraft CdG R91 may safely operate? And what would be the number of each type of aircraft?
Charles de Gaulle can carry up to 40 aircraft total.

Normal Peace Time airwing:

10 x Rafael M
10 x Super Etendard Modernisés
02 x E-2C Hawkeye
02 x Dauphin ASW Helicopters
01 - Alouette Helicopter
02 x Caracel CSAR Helicopters

(In fact, this was the airwing that the Charles de Gaulle went out with for Operation “Bois Belleau” that they recently conducted with the USS Carl Vinson.)

I expect a full combat airwing in times of war for the Charles de Gaulle would be something like this:

18 x Rafael M
12 x Super Etendards
03 x E-2C Hawkeye
03 x Dauphin ASW Helicopter
02 x Caracel CSAR Helicopters

In peace time, the Charles de Gaulle normally travels escorted by one of the two Forbin (Horizon) class destroyers, one Georges Leygues class anti-submarine Frigate, a Rubis class SSN, and they are accompanied by Durance class replenishment vessel. I would expect that escort would be beefed up in wartime and would include maybe a couple of the new FREMM Class FFGs too.

Here's a photo-op picture by the French Navy showing a larger fixed airwing all on deck:

12 x Rafael M
14 x Super Etendard
02 x Hawkeye
02 x Dauphin ASW helicopters

...and popeye, I thought you would like this hanger shot of the Charles de Gaulle:

was put up on the Italian Navy Facebook profile today; leftmost is one of the Orizzonte-class, rightmost: the Cavour (550) aircraft carrier, both easily recognizable by the EMPAR

in the middle are Maestrale-class frigates, I believe.

Nice picture of an Italian carrier grouping, Jura!

But, actually, that group consists of the Cavour in the upper right, the AOR vessel Etna behind and in the upper middle of the photo, and then the FREMM class FFG, the Bergamini behind that, and finally, the Offshore Patrol Vessel, the Borsini in the foreground. The Borsini is a Commandante class OPV.

Cavour 550 (CV)
Etna A5326 (AOR)
Bergamini F590 (FREMM)
Comandante Borsini P491 (OPV)

There is currently a lot of talks on French forums regarding DCNS' latest CV design (actually unveiled at Euronaval 2012), so I went into my archives and put this together

It would have been very nice if the French built the PAF2. But I believe it is entirely off the table now.

Admiral Bernard Rogel, the Chief of Staff of the French Navy said this in 2012.

"A decision should be taken on the second aircraft carrier, but I do not see today any worthy proposal between 3 and 5 billion euros to build it. This does not mean that it is not possible. When one has only one carrier, it necessarily adds the risk of not having any carrier available during certain periods. However, for all that, it would be inappropriate to unbalance the coherence of our other military commitments in order to acquire this second carrier."

And then,

(French PDF File) put an official end to it.

So now DNCS is offering this new/revised version of that design called "the Evolved Aircraft Carrier," (DEAC), for the export market. Seems like India and Brazil are probably the only possible customers for them at this point, and I believe all they would do is help India because India is intent on building it themselves..

No problem, Jura. The FREMM frigates have a similar main mast structure at a distance as the Horizon.

Here's one of my favorite pictures to date of the Cavour:

Jeff ran out of fingers at 12, and they don't let him take his shoes off at work???? LOL, sorry Jeff
Hehehe...Brat, last I checked we all had ten fingers on our hands. So, I actually ran out at ten...but I did miss two of those Super Etendards for some reason.

All the better for the French. They had 30 fixed wing aircraft on the carrier there.
