I think 13000 ton is not enought for such a thing, looks like it needs 30 meters in width and 220-250 in meters length. The arrangement of AShW missiles is weird and I think the rocket launchers should be hiden in the hull. And the ladder like hull is just stupid I think

Specifications:

13000 ton displacement
nuclear power (I think it's not necessary)

VLS:
6x10 cold for HHQ9
8x12 hot (but it looks 8x10 to me) for 120km AAW missiles, ASROC, cruiser missiles

YJ62x16

730x2
Chinese RAM x2
raser interceptor x2 (this is a little too far I think)

100mm main gun (too small?)
multipurpose launcher x6
torpedo 3x2
helicopter x2

Well, I couldn't see the pic on your post, so I went and got it and I am posting it myself with one slight modification...showing both Chinese RAMs.

Would be perfeclty located in the "ideal chinese cruiser thread" I guess.

Seeing all the VLS, I'm wondering where the artist supposes the crew to live and work.
These perpendicular "steps" forward and behind the forward superstructure and the podest for the aft RAM launcher seem like unecessary radar reflecting surfaces to me.

In terms of "steps", they are probably working off the lines of some of the AEGIS vessels out there...like the Kongo.

My own favorite lines are on the Sachsen...that is one very trim design with a lot of punch for its size.

why dose the anti-ship cruise missile launchers pointing at each other
4 sets of missile tubes midship

I would guess the "artist" used that config to enhance stealth by avoiding small angles just above the hull. Or the exhaust gases to be expelled to the outside of the ship.
However, launching AShM across the deck seems a bad idea to me.

Yep, looks quiet modern and fairly impressive, not much stuff on top to reflect radar waves with the well placed surfaces.

How much fuel and what kind of "real world" range does the Sachsen have? I figure that something had to give in that design and my guess is internal volume.

The Sachsen is an excellent design all around. 4,000 mile range at 18 knots.

I personally think that it is among the better "small" AEGIS-like vessels out there. IMHO, as effective all-round as the Horizon or Daring.

With 32 SM-2 standard missiles, 24 ESSMs, and 42 RAMs (two 21 missile RAM launchers), it has about as complete and effective all around anti-missile defense from long range, through medium rang to short range as any vessel out there, particularly for its size at less than 6,000 tons.

Nice pic, but I'd get rid of the "revolver" VLS's. They will interfere with crew movement inside the skin of the vessel and block the LOS of sensors and defensive weapons when active.
Not my pic. I just added the extra Sino-RAM on there. I agree with your thoughts...not a lot of room to move by those launchers internally.

The Sachsen class seems to be an excellent 'compact' design. I have had a personal interest in this class because it was one of the vessels originally shortlisted for the RAN's air warfare destroyer. The RAN probably regarded it as not quite matching the capability (in terms of range and number of VLS cells) of the Spanish F100 which was chosen as a backup design to the Evolved Burke in case it emerged as being too risky or expensive. Also the Spanish ship already incorporated AEGIS which was a core requirement by the RAN.

I agree with you that the combination of SM-2, ESSM and RAM provides Sachsen with an excellent layered anti missile defense. I think these three layers, combined with an excellent fire control system, provide what is the core requirement in all modern cruisers and destroyers. Sachsen's designers have done well to incorporate this in such a compact design.

Cheers
