those are the militia, but in reality they are just civie girls selected and paid to do the job. everyone else are real soldiers including the SOF. though i disagree with taking valuable manpower off of their posting for several months to practice for this parade. China only has less than 10000 of these highly-trained SOF guys and now they are short 200 ppl for secretive operations along Chinese borders and other security related tasks

Thanks for posting that pla101prc..

After I posted 10 or so of those same women marching and fooling around in another forum this was the response;

Just to be clear: even though those women are called "militia," they are not military at all.

Somebody thought it'd be a great idea to have a square for militia at the Oct 1, PRC's birthday parade. But instead of having actual militia members in it, they put out a call for young women of certain height and physical standard. And you end up with a bunch of college students, young office workers, etc. All female. All young. All way above average in height and look. They were gathered up for 6 months, trained in nothing other than goose stepping in formation. And they will be demobilized after the parade.

If you thought the girl walked like a model, it's probably because she was a model before signing up for this.

So gents..true or not?? And did they do the same thing with the men??

I imagine every military does that in some form or another. I had a friend who wanted to be a US Air Force or Marine pilot. So he simply inquired about it. The branches of the military came calling but they were trying to steer him anywhere but there for some reason they didn't explain. He thinks it was either because of race or because he came from a lower income background. He was an intelligent guy and physically fit. He definitely believed it had something to do with him not fitting into "place." Which is purely superficial.

BTW, seeing some of the pics of the women rehearsing... I have to say they may meet the height requirement but most of them I wouldn't call "pretty."

Do some research on chinese military forums and you will probably be enlightened.:D

Moreover your assumption that PLA generally shows off the most modern (even not deployed) equipment on national day parades is utter nonsense since e.g. J-10 and HN-1/2 cruise missiles were conspicuously absent in 1999 as even experts like yourself should have already noticed!
;)

I have made some research, and i have found nothing. Until you show me pictures, i wont believe.

The DF-31 wasnt deployed in 1999 and was only in 2007 acording to DoD. Yet it was show in 1999. J-10 had only fly for first time about 18 months earlier. Probably they didnt want to run the risk of having the plane crashing.

No, im not a expert...but i dont know if you are. What are your sources of info?

As far as I know, there were only ads calling for women.

If you think about it logically, there are plenty of men from regular force, plenty of women from regular force, and plenty of men from militia, so there is no reason why these squares need to be picked from civilians. Furthermore, it would be more advantageous to pick soldiers who already had tons of discipline training than people who have no training at all. On the other hand, coming up with people (in and near Beijing) to put into the women militia square might be more difficult, considering most women have a whole lot of other interests other than train with arms. Not to say there is no women in the militia, but my guess is very very few. So to come up with enough people for the women militia square, it became necessary to hire from civilians.

Apparently you are quite gullible regarding DoD's China reports..., though I have to admit that seeing is the first step to believing. Pictures will inevitably surface in the future just as has happened in the case of DF-21C but of course we will have to wait and see. (Although the only thing sure about PLA during the last decade was that every year a couple of surprises suddenly appeared!)

As for your nice inquiry about my sources I can only tell you that sources and methods are indeed peculiar things. :p

There are three pictures: one on a public road with the cab's doors opened, taken from the vehicle's front. Another has a PLA soldier walking in front of the TEL. One is taken while the vehicle is on a test track.

I just saw a recriutment add for the Marines on TV where you see a long line of them at different iconic US sites. Guess what? They all were the same look, height, and build too. Not everyone in the Marines or any other service all look like that either.

True, however all those men are Marines and have to apply for that type of duty. All the US services have ceremonial guards that have certain physical requirements.

By the way I have no problem with the way the PRC is forming up this parade. Including the standing up of these "militia". It's just a parade.

Thanks for the responses.:)
