Honestly modern smart phones do a reasonably good job of measurement. You can't stop interested parties from getting what they want. You can probably walk around a plane and construct a somewhat accurate 3d model.
Check out AliceVision Meshroom. It's an open source photogrammetry software.

Why would they bring such a rough looking aircraft for display? Even the random dude who filmed that video is pointing at joints that look rough. Why not bring a production unit which showcases the actual construction of production aircraft?

Outside of that, I think we are going to see some great displays at this years show!
There you go:
Why bring a production unit which showcases the actual construction of production aircraft?

Plus I bet all of the in service units are dedicated to either:

  • The War in Ukraine
  • Training
  • Creating a doctrine
  • Participating in testing new payloads

But why would anyone want Fat Amy when this sleek new stealthy messenger of death is available?

This does bring up another issue. The J-35A is noticeably "slimmer" than the F-35. I wonder how this impacts the volume of the weapons bays, and more specifically its ability to hold heavy A2G weaponry. The J-35's weapons bay is burdened with both the slimmer fuselage and the fact that it has two engines that take up space.

Perhaps the J-35 is doctrined as a pure air superiority fighter with A2G capabilities resigned to SDBs and short-range AGMs.

Yes, according to a PLAAF Colonel and the China Military Online website.

You really think that donating 75 million dollars grants you to any ToT?
Hey, maybe they'll get a sticker on the plane.
Well it is interesting they are letting people get really close to the plane, which is a first and could explain why they chose to send a prototype over a serial aircraft, besides all the other reasons mentioned.

I don't think people will be getting this close to a J-20, for example

The J-35A isn't saddled with the requirements of commonality with a VTOL variant which means even if slimmer, it probably has a similar weapons bay, if not bigger, as it doesn't need to be split in half and wrap around the massive engine like that of the F-35 does.
