How is this a defection? Did she say she fled the U.S. due to persecution or something? I don't think so. If this qualifies as a defection then half the people on this forum are PRC defectors.
When China is openly labelled by them as the enemy of the US, the MSM calling Gu a defector is just inevitable.
She might have heard all the unsolicited advices about "going back to China", and she did just that.
That tells how low some people in US media or politics are going. They are smearing against a teenage girl who chose to become a Chinese citizen. On the other hand, if they did this to a local white teenage girl, hell would break loose.

There was this Washington Post article I was reading about Eileen Gu, and I realized that there was no picture of her in the entire article that showed what she really looked like.
Ms. Gu is a model, as she is a pretty 18 year old.
If it is a pretty girl, they always put her picture in, but there was none there in that Washington Post article.
This was a pretty white girl, who cannot get a good picture of herself inside a story that is about her.
Something is going on there.
Just wait until some people get a load of what the Chinese hockey team will look like.

, there are lots of Chinese Canadian who are good at playing Ice Hockey, I know a few which are my friends son, the only problem are the body size, we are quick BUT are not that physically strong and their parents abhorred violence. ( very Ironic cause violence wise you will likely get hurt in Sanda martial art than in Ice Hockey).

1) This is the most politicized Olympics that I have ever seen. Why the heck is this Beijing Winter 2022 Games so politicized? The fuck I would know. They can politicize anything they want in this world, including math! But that is abundantly clear. This is a very contentious Olympics because of the geopolitical situation (whatever the hell that is suppose to be), and the games are being held in the country that is central to of all that geopolitical angst.
2) This is the weird part. The people who are against China, they know very little about China. Total ignorance.
Now, we get to the WTF part. Hehe.
3) Due to geopolitical reasons and competitive fire, Trump supporters and Biden supporters are pumped up for this Olympics. But to their shock, the favourite to win gold in skiing, a white person born in the USA, is competing for the other side!
