That wrestling loss was so frustrating. Big missed opportunity for a gold for China. 4-0 and lose 4-5 with 15 seconds to go.

You win some and then you lose some.

Another gold! These guys just beat Germany in the Men's Table Tennis Final. The last match between Ma Long and Boll was pretty intense.
While victory was never in doubt, Ma made a series of mistakes in the 3rd round, needing a 4th, which was good in hindsight, as they played a bit longer.

I commend the Germans for winning Silver without using naturalized Chinese players.

So we got the gold in the table tennis as expected, didn't win the women's walk, which we had a chance, got a somewhat surprising gold in the javelin (she placed second in the semis but the winning throw came with a bucket full of luck because it was her first throw, then she threw shit the rest of the time) but ended up with silver in the 53kg women's wrestling (blowing a 4-0 lead no less) and again silver in the women's 61kg karate (0-0 lost on judge's decision because we were not as aggressive as the Serbian). I give that a B-.

The US won a wrestling gold in the 125kg mens. The guy was expected to win. So good nobody could score on him until the finals. I think they advanced another guy into the semis too.

The fact that United States has 150% more warm bodies (therefore medal opportunities) than China, but is basically neck-and-neck with China, speaks volumes. Theoretically, US should have +150% more total medals than China, but it's only leading +22% in total medals, and -16% in Gold medals.... so underperforming significantly.

US, Japan, Australia, and Germany have more warm bodies to throw in human-waves against the medal podium.... yet they are all behind China in total gold and total medals (except US, but given +150% more athletes, the gap is terribly small in total medals).

Next NYT headline: "Americans use 'Human Wave' tactics at medal podium, sacrificing individual liberty for national glory!"
