Yeah but this is irresponsible on the part of the judge. What if the guy gets killed in the medals match? THAT would be on them.
Its actually ironic skateboarding is something I picked up only last year at the tender age of 33 as a result of needing new social distance sports during COVID. I actually think it deserves to be more a sport than something truely bullshit like Equestrian, which basically caters to the western aristocracy and has more to do with a horse than an athelete. And it demands athletic ability and power not too dissimilar to gymnastics. Skateboarding has also grown in chinese urban culture and I expect China to be in medal contention within a decade.

Kudos,congratulations and much thanks to our men/women who make us Chinese folk so very proud-as it is' I hope we top the medal board but many events are unfairly stacked by the IOC against us and there is a real weakness in team sports and athletics BUT to stay on top with USA so long is a feat in itself-Bravo-love them all-BTW getting to watch the Chinese athletes or any other then US/Can here in Toronto is difficult -hoping to buy a good quality DVD of China in Olympic and also hoping to buy "One man's Olympic-1932" dvd BTW wasn't his grandson/son was given a recognition honour at the 2008 Beijing Games?He deserved it.How far we've come.
US sends 613 people, whereas China sends 431 people, so all else equal, US will automatically TOP the total medal counts based on sheer size of team alone. It's an auto win for them.
However, given the 5 : 3 : 2 ratio (Based on US team paying $33,700: $22,500, $15,000 for Gold: Silver :Bronze respectively., either you rank by gold first, then silver as tie breaker (and so on) or weight the medals by their value. US system of total medals is meaningless since it values one bronze equal to one gold.
China should focus on quality over quantity, just like IOC rankings do. Only US ranks by total.
