Two remote controlled/unmanned ground vehicles. The one in the foreground is interesting. It appears to be an unmanned system meant to accompany soldiers on foot patrol and carry their heavier loads, like a robotic mule of sorts. The US army was looking into something like this over ten years ago. Also, it appears to feature in-wheel electric motors

I know a little old now but I just had not caught it then.
First the U.S. is not the only one. A number of European makers and armies are looking to.
Second there have been a number of versions of the Mule idea from wheeled to tracked to legged. Some to move with the soldiers some to remote resupply some to offer fire support.
The last report I had on such was that the Army ran tests of a a number of Mule prototypes and selected one by Howe and Howe tech the RS2-H1. A tracked hybrid, of course Howe and Howe are fairly small and there were reportedly interest by Textron land systems in buying them.
Hybrid vehicles seem the choice for this due to there electric drives being able to operate by battery when desired for quite running. The engine can also be used as a generator for recharging equipment.
The vehicle needs to be bomb proof and able to traverse all kinds of terrain.
