The Dutch broadcaster BNR ( formerly Business News Radio ) writes on its site that according to the Russian defense ministry 147 Ukrainian units have transferred their allegiance to the Russian army ( But what is a unit ), that 2000 Ukrainian military have left for the Ukraine of the 18000 originally present, that all Ukrainian military personnel is free to leave the Crimea but that Ukraine has closed the border at the end of the afternoon, also for its own military personnel.

Unit is a new one on me, the Ukrainain military was once a conscript army but they were supposed to have ended the practice last year. the last count of the Ukranian armed forces was 2010 which was at 200,000 troops. now obveusly the Ukranian military did not have 147 divisions defect as they have no where near that number to begin with. I think we can level down "Units" to company level and below, a company could be any where from 80-200 so assuming a 80 man company the Russians would have success in droves of 11,760, a platoon 26 to 55 troops assuming the minimum again then a more reasonable 3,822 the lowest would be a squad at 8-13 men assuming the high 13 then 1,911. these are rough numbers as the formations very based on role, A squad of one job can be larger then those of another, and on up, also what exactly the Russians are counting Ground forces, Navy, Air force, Police? or only those of one service

And the Crimea is only the beginning, eastern Ukraine is next.

Ukraine air force couple weds at besieged base hours before pro-Russian forces capture it

BELBEK AIR BASE, Crimea – As pro-Russian forces surrounded a Ukrainian-held air force base in Crimea, two lieutenants stood side-by-side and tied the knot.

The couple completed their wedding vows Saturday under the gaze of Belbek base commander Col. Yuliy Mamchur, who has been hailed in Ukraine for his refusal to yield to numerically superior pro-Russian forces.

As medic Galina Volosyanchik and communications officer Ivan Benera were being handed a gift and bouquet of flowers, Mamchur said: "You will always remember this, the whole world is here watching."

As Volosyanchik held her flowers, she wiped away tears. Colleagues then drank champagne and shared toasts.

Hours later, armed pro-Russia forces smashed into and took control of Belbek base, which had been the last major military facility to remain under Ukrainian control in the peninsula.
And on the lighter Side, Congratulations GET OUT!

One honorable man willing to take a stand for justice, that he is Olde-Soldier adds credibility, not everyone is anxious to come under the boot of a dictator, in fact prolly only those "low information" voters on Eastern side????? brat

and when the Russian controlled occupying forces are breaking down main gates and armored up, it would do well to remember the citizens of the Ukraine said NO to a deal to purchase their country for 15 billion dollars. That NO is what us to this place, the peoples desire to NOT come under Vladimir Putin, or align with his Russia, its a lot simpler than it looks, but then one thing the East and the West have in common is the ability to make the simple complex with bloviating, droning on endlessly with everything "but, the truth".

I believe this is the illustration TE for your "free speech" in Russia! actually for the whole concept of freedom under any totalitarian regime.

Looks like "Big Helmet, is holding Minnie Me" the little pointy headed dude with the big hat?????? maybe its just a movie?????

The article of my Dutch newspaper I referred to earlier also said that that the main entrance of an Ukrainian army base with 2000 men was blockaded by a few hundred Russian while the back entrance was free and used by soldiers and their families to get in and out. It also said that the commander told the correspondent that the conscript soldiers were free to transfer to the Russian army but that he would commit treason if he did the same. I did think this odd while I read it.
