While it may be a forced comparison, perhaps the 095 and 09X are supposed to be the PLAN equivalent of PLAAF's J-36/J-50 combo, complementing each others roles and capabilities.

Wondering how many will be produced for each 095 and 09X?

If the latest satellite pics are accurate, does that eliminate the previously speculated possibility that "09X is a 09V variant?" My layman's understanding is that an SSN's hull can be potentially lengthened, but to widen a hull is effectively the same amount of work as designing a new class of subs.

The 09X is noticeably wider than the 09V in the latest satellite pics.

IF 09X is wider, then yes, it would have to be a different design, or at least there is no precedent AFAIK in a variant even of double hull boats increasing width of the outer hull.

However, I am not convinced the latest picture in fact shows different beams. The problem with satellite images is that based on the angle at which they are taken combined with resolution they can play some tricks on your eyes. Its funny because initial impressions of the new boat, based on imagery at JN in fact assumed they are narrower than 09V.

Different loading/displacement at the time the photo was taken could also drastically change the observed ‘diameter’.

Something i wanted to ask, do we have an idea when the 095 and 095As were laid down? And as an example to try to ascertain when they may be commissioned, roughly how long did it took from laying down, to launch, and to commission the 093Bs?

Not news. And the claim of a second 093B SSN being launched this year still remains highly doubtful.

I havent seen any credible claims (though I follow the Chinese language discourse less than others here). One principal problem with construction of these boats is that because assembly occurs entirely within the large halls, we have very little idea on timeframes before roll-out. Even looking at pressure hull segments stored in the open is not per se authoritative, but only allows guessing with a significant margin for error (what boat particular modules are for etc). Unless a builder advertises a first steel cut etc, we're pretty much left in the dark.
