I think it's Type 093B that comparable to late Los Angeles, and Type 095 will be comparable to Virginia.

Well the "US" has not officially claimed anything per se, and there have only been circumstantial indicators of what the 09IIIA and 09IIIB are like.

That said, of some people I have talked to, 09IIIA seems to be competitive with late LAs in multiple (though not all) important aspects of silencing.

Is it the A or the B? Because if so, could we actually expect B to be a major improvement over the A which is already nearly as good as 688i?

What kinds of different aspects of silencing are there? The only two I can really think of is quieter machinery so the submarine makes less noise, and material/shape treatment to help manage acoustic returns from active sonar search.

There are also hull designs to minimise the amount of noise produced while sailing underwater etc, 093 series is based on a old hull that was kinda of half assed at the time it was designed(They needed to keep the engineers employed but at the time didn't really have that much money to develop advanced SSNs).

I'm not talking about ways to carry out silencing but more domains of silencing performance.

Specifically, at different speed profiles...
