Can 094 carry antiship missiles on its tubes instead of JL2? Ashm is smaller.
It would be pretty flexible to switch between a SSGN or a SSBN.
You mean like the Ohio converted to carry 112 Tomahawks, with each silo converted with a sleeve with seven VLS each?
The question is, what kind of antiship missile are you going to shoot out from this? Tomahawks are hot launched from the Mk. 41 VLS, so if its submarine launched, it would have to be cold launched and encased in a canister that will only fire the missile once it reaches the surface.
With the sole exception of the YJ-18, all other Chinese antiship missiles are currently in slant launched variant and would require creating a dedicated variant to do this. Someone would have to decide, approve or disapprove, the development expenditures for such.
With the YJ-18 you would need a separate variant from the one that is horizontally launched from the torpedo tube used in 039B and 093A. If you are considering a variant of the 093 or 095 that would launch YJ-18 from VLS tubes either in the submarine bow or back, the bean counter can have an easier case of making such a budget approval, as you can utilize the same missile in a Type 094 SSGN conversion.
