My personal opinion is that they are aiming for 8 ships of the type (to match the number of 071’s). I thought we would see a fleet of 8 71’s and 8 75’s but then the 076 turned up, so maybe it will be another 8 of them as well. That would give 24 large amphibs, which sounds like a great number to me.

I think we could see more single 075’s built while the 076 is in testing.

Isn't that like an insanely high amount of LHA/LHD? US only has like 9 LHA/LHD and China doesn't plan on having global force projection. 16 LHD ignoring that 8 of them will be world's largest, most advanced LHDs ever built at 50k+ tons and a catapult, I have a hard time finding a use for such a fleet.

Today, the Navy has 31 amphibious ships — what the Marine Corps considers the bare minimum it needs — but the Pentagon plans to shrink the fleet below that number in fiscal 2024.

Today China has 3 Type 071’s deployed abroad, 1 in Vladivostok and 2 in Tanzania. That is 3 out of their 11 amphibious ships on foreign missions while facing the most severe threats at home.

It’s just my opinion, but I think 24 is appropriate.
