075 LHD thread

Don’t recall PLAN building another medium/large surface combatant this fast, the 075 emerged from several modules in the shipyard to being launched in weeks. Their first CV took many years.

Not sure if they can now build other warships this fast as well, or is it they are just very good at building LHDs, even this is their first time

It’s almost like something you’d do in a wartime emergency construction programme, even if there has been longer gaps in time between all the photos the speed of this is extraordinary. I suspect that China is also “sending a message” by doing this so quickly

It’s a good sign. LHDs aren’t much different from building flat top carriers. If they can launch a 41 000 ton ship in half a year using modules, it won’t take too long time to build a 100 000 ton carrier either.

I think the 002 (001A?) might actually be the exception in terms of building time. China doesn’t seem to have “it’s own” plans on carriers with ski jumps, so it relies on the purchased ones from Ukraine. This would have made the building process significantly slower.

Someone asked earlier why is that China seems to be able to build new ships from domestic designs much faster than modifying old ships such as the CV16.

It's quite logical if you think about it. If you design something yourself, you know it inside and out, of course it's going to be faster when you build it. If you modify an existing ship or design, you have to first figure out why it's designed this way, where everything goes/fits, and how you want to modify it to suit your own needs. It's like decorating a new house versus an old house, in the latter case you'll probably have to strip off the paint on the walls, remove unwanted furniture, change out the floor tiles or chop down some trees before you can do the real work of decorating.

That explains why the Sov 136 refit dragged on. You are also at the mercy of the original creators of the ship for various information, and some of the people involved may not even be employed by that company anymore. You also have an old design that dates back to the Cold War. However, I do believe the process of renovating and refitting much more recent Chinese designs such the 052B and the 054 frigate will be undertaken with much greater speed, and may even be smoother than the 051B. I also think that with all the back knowledge and experience gathered after 136's refit, the refits for 137, 138 and 139 could be done much quicker and faster.
