It’s taken a month to arrive, since the eruption. It’s pretty good, and I think China should be able to cut this time down the next time. Hopefully they can be among the first on scene in each major disaster around the west pacific?

The actual journey took 16 days, over a distance of about 10,000 km. The equipment and material carried on the ship are mainly for re-construction of buildings damaged or destroyed duriing the valcono eruption.
Also China need to liaise with Tonga on the items that they needed for re-construction of their island nation, anyway the materials and equipment sent by ships are less urgent than water, food, clothing, medicine etc which were sent by air. Procurement time for these material, especially the tractors and pre-fab houses, might need quite some time as they are not the normal relief materials ready-stored in an emergency relief warehouse.
Urgent aid materials were sent by Y20 transport jets once the airport runway had been cleared of valcono dust a few days after eruption.
Even better that the Chinese Navy ship type 71 did not break down like the Aussies ship did. How sad for the kangaroo lovers!
