I can't imagine why they would have started sea trials of the new ship in a lesser state of completedness compared to the first three vessels. Given that this is their fourth ship, it's expected that they would reduce the fitting out rate somewhat. Though I'm not sure how the 8 months compares to the time taken between launch and sea trials of the first three vessels.

As for the 5th boat... there was a rumour a while back that we may see a delay between the 4th and 5th boats, and that the 5th might have meaningful changes (like an "071A")... so we'll have to wait and see as always.

well, the Chinese could do a lot and lot in 8 months .... so I am not surprised.

Remember many can be done in parallel ... so increase the number of fitting crews would shorten the whole fitting time

Time between the 3rd and 4th unit was a long one and we should have expected a update LPD but we didn't so I don't think there is any major changes

I don't under stand the pause and also why they are not building a 5th it could be that they are actually working on a modified Type 071A LPD with greater capacity and speed but who knows

Rather than seeing a 5th unit I would like to see a fully loaded LPD with 4 x Z8 and 4 x LCAC with equipment and troops

Come on LPD programme let's get serious and start to see some LCAC and amphibous operations with all 4 x LPD or atleast 2

It's going to be 10 years and still still still waiting for a fully loaded type 071

Still waiting for a packed out rear deck with 4-6 x Helos

These are warships not some museum ships get them out to sea and do operations

I am so impatience o_O

Get a LPD fleet to sail along the carrier you have the toys show them

Building amphibous capability's like Zubr and Type 072 is priority but how to land forces on a beech using Type 726 is not ?

There has been issues with the turbine engine (QC-70) for Type 726. It is said the issue has been resolved now. There was a piece of news that an award has been given to a professor who had led the efforts on QC-70.

This is very good news...and interesting.

Do you have some links for this...preferably with English translations?

We have wondered for a long time what the issue was...and speculated that something like this must be the issue...but to date I do not believe we had any hard evidence.

I was quoting from my memory, so some of the details were not exactly correct.
Unfortunately, I can't find anything in English translation. The original news was from the China Aviation News website:

This is an article reporting on the various achievements of Mr. Li Xiaotang, who is the chief designers for a series of gas turbines, including QD128、QD70、QD185、R0110. Buried in all the Chinese official cliches is this paragraph:

"2004年，某小档功率船用燃气轮机立项研制，这是海军首型动力单独立项的燃气轮机，也是航空工业首次承担研制自主知识产权的舰船动力。李孝堂作为燃机型 号总设计师，面对研制时间短、任务急、技术难度大等困难，采用一系列先进技术，采用并行工程及项目管理方式，设计、生产、试车台改造及装配加工等各方面工 作安排合理，相关部门责任明确，高速运转。2006年12月，该燃气轮机在试验基地A205老试验台调试，标志着航空工业具有自主知识产权的动力产品将开 拓出又一全新的应用领域。之后，在新建试车台上仅用69天就完成了整机耐久性考核试验。2008年4月，该型燃机顺利通过技术鉴定，综合技术指标达到国际 先进水平，2015年初通过样机技术鉴定，现在用户已小批量订货并装船。"

Supposedly, this talks about QC70 (QD70), the version to power Type 726. The key milestones:
2004: program officially launched
12/2006: testing started
4/2008: successfully passed the technical specification certification
early 2015: prototype passed the technical certification, a small number have been ordered by customer and have been installed on the ships.

Note that seven years have passed between 2008 and 2015, indicating they probably had run into a lot issues.
