Not sure are these shared before!!! RARE.

Thanks so much for the translations.

I posted the same photos in the PLAN photo thread in Chinese. But no one translated the captions. One of my disabilities is the inability to read any form of the Chinese language.

Thank again so much for the translations!

With all due respect to 1st Seamen Askiah, those doors and that book shelf hardly look like they could belong to a warship. They look more like part of a building on land or part of the crew habitation area of a merchant ship.

Not true Chuck.. not all doors in a naval ship are watertight steel bulkhead doors with escape wheels like you see in hollywood movies. If this is a small vessel, like a minesweeper, small corvette etc you may be right but since this a LPD, I'm sure there are many compartments that is not all ' steel gray'.
If Seaman Askiah was in an engine room, fireroom etc than sure that bookshelf and wooden doors would be inappropriate. Like you said she may be in a crew rest compartment etc.

Hey Popeye,

No problems. If you need caption or article translation, I could help but may take some time.

Cheers

Sorry for not know too much about China (although I did travel there frequently) but seaman Askiah doesn't look Chinese and her name doesn't sound Chinese too. Wonder if she was one of the minority and if she is, does anyone know which group she actually belongs to and how many different type of minorities are there serving these new and modern warships?

Possibly Uighur. And the PLA is fairly open to minorities, I'm not surprised seeing them serving onboard PLAN ships. There are also some Central Asian/European looking fellas in PLA too, from minorities in china.

The actual Chinese caption writes she is from the Wei "维" minority.

Askiah is the translated from the Chinese to English name. I believe her name is written differently from the Wei pronunciation.

The Type 071 LPD gives the Chinese navy very good experience on how well to fully utilize a flat large deck which will be beneficial to them when it comes to operating a fully operational flat top like a large LHD

Flat top operations and large deck space are invaluable at sea, I hope that we do see a large LHD complimenting these LPDs in future amphibious operations, a 40,000 ton LHD leading 3 x Type 071 LPDs leading a further 8-10 x Type 072 III LST would give PLAN a very powerful amphibious ready group, such a force could easily transport one of the two 6,000 marine brigades based out of Zhanjiang

Backed up with FFG and DDG, a replenishment ship and SSN we have over 20 warships in this groups add to that a carrier strike group and you have almost 30 warships

Imagine one of those task forces transiting the Suez Canal!

The Chinese name for Uighur is 维吾尔. So Wei 维 is just short hand for Uighur.
