No need, missiles are the main thread for any navy ships. These guns are for smaller threat at sea.

Actually I would expect these ships to have escorts and most of the threats should be taken care of by their escorts.

Even with escorts, I would be good to have a FL-3000N for any "leakers" that get past her escorts. She already has the CIWS to handle this to some extent, but like the U.S. San Antonio class with its RAM launchers (x2) that close in missile defense is a good thing just in case.

Thats why she needs some FL3000 for point defense against the leakers through the escorts area defense, as Jeff Head mentioned. Bigger gun would give her better fire support capability for shore bombardment in certain scenario.

Well, the PLAN has had all sizes of LST type landing craft, up to and including the larger Type 072 III vessels to learn and practice amphibious landings over the years. I have no doubt that they are proficient at it.

But these LPDs and perhaps later LHAs are a differnt matter because now they can mix in and coordinate OTH air assault off of these vessels either individually, or in concert with large amphibious landings using their LCAC type craft.

In those types of mixed arms assaults from the sea, the PLAN is very new and have only had 3 years or so to work with. In that regard they are still in their infancy...but learning fast. LPDs and LHDs or LHAs are a whole new breed of animal that increase the sea assault capability by an order of magnitude and it will take time to get profficient at and efficiernt at intgrating that capability into their already long history of straight amphibious assault operations from LSTs.

Indeed, the situation is very similar to the Turkish Navy which has operated LST and LCT for many decades but never LPD that's why they are always taking every opportunity to get as much experience with LPD as possible during NATO exercises because they plan to acquire one, but since no Turkish shipyard can build a LPD or have the knowledge to design one the contract needs to go to outside country but that is forbidden under new Turkish procurement programme hence the need to find a international partner which is likely to be South Korea the need is for transport of 1,000 troops, 27 vehicles, 4 x LCAC and 4 helicopters

To load, off load, maintaince and operating LPD is a pretty hard task and requires lots of learning that takes time, like a fine art also takes much experience to perfect before you can use them in a war times

The video says it was 998 but this is the 2nd Type 071 LPD which commissioned last October which is 999, it's backed by 6-7 Type 072 IIIs

The landing assault is being lead by the LPD they used LCAC and also Z8 helicopter, good work by Chinese marines

If China can double or even triple this assault force we have enough transport for a full Marine bridge to launch a landing, once secured this can followed up by roll on and roll off ships which can easily transports entire Divsions plus thier equipment, ships like Bohai Emerald Bead Can lift 2000 Personal and they are going to have 4 of such ships

Overall good development for China in landing forces from the sea which is one step closer to blue water operations, I hope hey practice night time operations too

Wow is this in Ukraine! China has 2 on order and 2 to be built in China I think?

4 of these and you have a rapid response capability to close by islands, very good for China
