There has been a lot of discussion on Uruguayan military forum about P18 for that country possibly as part of a trade deal and possibly including L15, it's all speculation. Uruguayan President is supposed to make an official visit to China this year and the government has officially tendered the requirement for at least two OPV class vessels, new or used with a budget of approximately US$100 million.

Anyone know if a sale/transfer of P18 to Uruguay is possible?

uruguaymilitaria.com right? I think it's interesting how the forum is divided into Past/Present/Future sections.

I think your friend on the forum is right. The ships are less than 10 years old, they'll serve for a while yet in the PLAN. In the most extreme case, they might be converted to 056A or into China Coast Guard ships. I don't think there'll be transfers, we've only seen that for much older ships like the 053 frigate or 035 submarine, and mostly to Myanmar, Bangladesh, and other geographically close nations (I think).
There's nothing stopping productions specifically for Uruguay though, and as far as I understand, Uruguay and China have friendly relations.

The price point sounds about right, about ~50 million for each OPV/Corvette.

One advantage of a large shipbuilding industry is that there's always room for export shipbuilding. I don't think there's a political or commercial or industrial reason why a deal can't happen. I think it's just up to the negotiators to actually reach a deal everyone's satisfied with. But we won't know until an announcement, if any, is made.

Edit: I think its funny to see other human beings excited (like that Hum guy) about Corvettes. People talk about PLA watchers getting excited about Shenzhen 167 back in the day, now they don't care and get frustrated when they don't get daily updates on 003 or hear any news of the new stealth bomber. People from countries with smaller militaries must feel surreal and think people are spoiled when they hear about this, then again, we might argue its nicer and happier to be in such a state of mind when you can get excited about corvettes.

China would happily accept the payment from Uruguay with the high quality beef from there, the best in the world

P18 is a ship class that's built new. Its based on the 056 but its not the 056, nor you can transfer existing 056 for this. Compared to the 056, the P18 actually has a helicopter hanger and the optional provision for 8 antiship missiles. This is a bigger ship.

Just look at it this way. It is a cost effective solution and, who knows, maybe making public that Uruguay is looking to buy Chinese ships will inspire a donation from a certain someone. Wink wink.
