Addition of #107 makes total number of destroyers in current PLAN service to 49 ships.

8th type 055 with expected pennant #108 will be added next year, thus there will be 50 destroyers.

Current numbers of destroyers in PLAN:-

2 type 052B
2 type 052 (#112 and #113, to be retired in around 5 years)

That number 7 looks a little off. The black border on its spine looks overdone. I'm vacillate on whether this is PSed.

EDIT: Upon checking other PLAN pennant numbers, that black border may not be abnormal after all.

Around 2008 or 2007,chinese technical magazine feature an article about naval laser with a 50kw output.project very similiar to the usn "Have Grace " program.but to date ,I have not notice that plan surface ship carrying laser weapon.

From 2012 to 2014, a mysterious equipment was tested onboard aircraft carrier Liaoning. Many people suspected that this was a laser weapon. If they are not using it currently, it is just that PLAN is not satisfied with may be its range and power.

But eventually, improved laser weapons will appear on PLA navy ships in future, type 055 is large enough to put laser gun onboard, or thay may opt for rail gun.

ASW is very important for a DDG for this size

in addition the Type 075 LHD need a ultra heavy wide body Z-18 style helicopter for mine hunting, I dont why the PLA got them first when the Navy so badly needs them

the sub-surface threat cannot be disregarded no matter what
