055 Large Destroyer Thread II

Why do all Type 055 destroyers still use the small and ancient Z-9? Even the newest ones still have it. I imagine the main threat PLAN faces would be submarine. This seems like a really poor choice. Below is a video I found that includes news footage showing a Type 055 still operating the Z-9.

PLAN didn't place enough orders, so they naturally have line up once mass production began.

Instead of the destroyer carrying the helicopter for ASW, it should be the carrier launching and repairing the helicopter in their big hangers.

In a proper war, a destroyer should always be part of a carrier or lhd strike group.

on the next 055s

new material on the superstructures, which have significantly reduced RCS. They also uses new radar, which significantly increased detection range vs stealth aircraft. Improved propulsion system has higher thrust and power.

Made space for future weapon development like DEW.

okay, does anyone have detail on this "improved propulsion system"?
Starting from which #?

unfortunately having read some of the recent "big shrimp" comments, Z-20F sensor suite is too expensive so they won't be purchased in larger number or at least as large as you would expect. It's shocking to me considering how important it is. I think you are going to see far more Z-20J than Z-20F.

Does the PLAN have another plan for helicopter based ASW? Z-9Fs are AFAIK pretty unsatisfactory going into the 2020s and beyond, given current USN underwater superiority I would've thought the PLAN would invest far more in extensive ASW infrastructure.

If true then this is a spectacularly bad decision. PLAN should cut a couple of DDG/FFG from the procurement plan and spend the money on Z-20F. Presumably Z-18 ASW variants will also run on for some time on the STOBAR carriers.
