based on the recent Weibo rumor mills, it sounds like 054B will use H/AJK-16 and also carry 8 YJ-12s. Keep in mind that you can also do things like rafting to make your propulsion system/engine area to be quieter. In general though, it's just a good to have a ship that can be focused on ASW and be used for blue water missions. I'm just a little annoyed by the prospect of keeping 2 different VLS. Although I guess with such a large fleet, it's not end of the world.
Well, h/ajk is deployed on >50 ships(including new ones), it won't go anywhere for decades in any case.

For all its benefits, UVLS does have the downside of taking up relatively more deck space and volume if all the ship is planned to carry are medium range SAMs like HQ-16 and missile launched torpedoes.

I need exact measurements to be sure of this. U-VLS does not have a middle transfer channel like you see on the AJK-16 and Mk. 41 does. Instead of two cells adjecent each other separated by a middle channel, the two U-VLS cells are directly next to each other with no space in between.

U-VLS is noticeably less dense compared to Mk.41. The relative deckspace taken up by 128 cells on the Tico is quite a bit less compared to 112 cells on the larger Type 055.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a design where each cell has self contained exhaust venting takes up more space compared to a design with shared venting.

The RN is now having to keep three VLS, the one for Aster, the Mk.41 and the one for CAMMs. The RuN is actually keeping three modern VLS, one for Shtil, one for Vityaz, and the UKSK for Kalibers and Onix. The ROKN has Mk. 41 and K-VLS the latter for Korean indigenous missiles hence the K. In these cases, the ships themselves have two different VLS onboard. So it's definitely not the end of the world.

Two grainy images of Hudong shipyard. There are a few more modules next to the dry dock than before. What is the confidence level that one or more of them are for 054B?

For now, my opinion, just a high confidence level that these are warships. Whether it's the 054B, too early to tell unless exact dimensions are obtained, and we have sightings of the superstructure modules
