054B/new generation frigate

Didn't we confirm they built more 054A (054AG?) after 054B launch?

@爱若丰狂SOYO历 mentioned that the latest (5th) batch of 054AG FFGs that are in fitting out/construction stages would be the final units of the 054A/AG sub-family. Besides, the construction of the current 054AG batch has likely been decided before the start of the 14FYP, hence the current construction of the 054AG batch is basically just fulfilling the remaining orders made by the PLAN before proceeding with the newer 054B and 05X FFGs.

Though, the legacy of the 054 family will continue onwards in the CCG cutter (i.e. 054-mod) domain.

I mean I suppose you can say 054AG is a new class but eh? That seems like a stretch.

Nope. The 054AGs are still considered part of the 054A-class FFGs, just like how the 052DGs are considered part of the 052D-class DDGs.

I wonder if the "057" designation from yesteryears will be in play for the true next generation FFG in that case.

So what you're saying is it would be like as if the first 052D was produced just before the last 052C. It's just case of preplanning that these 054AG are being made and a quirk of the time table that they show up a bit after 054B but notwithstanding that this it for 054AG and it's all 054B and whatever comes next from here out.

Right that makes sense, that's what I would have expected as well.

No idea for the time being.

Apart from the successor FFGs to the 054-family, the "057" designation could also refer to/is sometimes being referred to the successor DDGs to the 052-family, given the grapevine rumors and certain publicly-available academic papers suggesting the usage of COD(L)AG propulsion systems on the future major surface combatants (including general-purpose DDGs) of the PLAN.

Yes, something like that.

Oh I'm not saying we have any hint as to what it'll be called -- more so that back in the day for a while the "057" designation was attached to the "next gen frigate" that we expected (alongside the "054B" name). It would be a funny twist of fate if both 054B and 057 eventuate, and both for "next generation frigates" technically.

Cross-posted from the Next Generation DDG and FFG thread.

If @爱若丰狂SOYO历's sources are correct, then the 054B FFGs will become the 052Cs of the FFG-lineage (i.e. 6 ships in total for the whole class), and as the final members of the 054-family.

Yep. Like I predicted last year.
The oldest comment about this was in June
