I will answer you assuming that you was not joking. I don't think the curtain is related to journalists. The PLA has its own media personnel’s, newspaper and magazine. I am sure PLA will probably ONLY allow their own journalist access to sensitive areas and the photos or articles will be thoroughly censored. These journalists used to hold military ranks, probably not today, but they are still under the command of PLA. The disciplines applied on them are equally strict as their colleagues baring ranks.

You can't compare those two as they're on different levels when it comes to their developement (PRC expanding vs US Navy maintaining). You'll always fail looking at things in this aspect.

That's 20 launches in 106 months or roughly just over 2 per year

I guess the number could have been 3 per year but production slowed in 2014/15
