This is the first time I've seen the name of this city. I am sure this is also true to most of us.

Heze city is in Shandong province, with population of 8.8 million people. It has long history from New Stone Age, Xia, Zhou, Shang dynasty till today. GDP of this city is USD 61 Billion in 2023.

Can earlier type of 052D be upgraded to DL ? Other than longer length and new surface search and new VHF radars, I'm curious if 052DL have more fundamental differences to earlier 052D.

I expect that when the time for MLU of the type 052D lead ship is due, the consideration for accommodation for Z20 will be very much weighted. Z20's advantage of range and payload vs Z9 is simply too large. So hangar size and heli-deck length will change.

The rest will depend on new advances made in sensors and weapons, we can take hints from latest batch of type 052D(X?) when they completed their out-fitting.

This is cross-posted from the 055 Large Destroyer thread.

The photo was likely taken at the same time as the most recent overflying photo of Fujian at Jiangnan with the KJ-600 and what-looks-to-be C-2 counterpart on the flight deck.

Seen are the hull modules which belongs to 4x DDGs:
#1 - The 2nd unit of the 2nd batch 055 DDGs built at Jiangnan (seems like the construction and assembly is taking quite a long while)
#2 - A bow section, likely belongs to a new 052DG DDG
#3 - A bow section and a mid-section, both likely belong to a new 055 DDG
#4 - A bow section, likely belongs to a new 052DG DDG

I don't see how the existing 13 units 052D can be lengthen by 4m to accommodate Z20 during MLU, perhaps not worth it. More likely to upgrade the radar, electronic and weapons system.

It is now expected that 052D/DL will reach ~ 40-50 or even more

Obvious limitation for such MLU is the aft UVLS. You can't move the hangar forward, so the only other option is to chop it shorter (if there is space enough for Z-20) and extend the helipad a bit over stern. Extending the hull with a plug-in will require quite a rebuild of the stern part, don't think it's practical time/money wise.

Are any of these not previously seen/counted?
