did you really have to start another thread for this?

First, how can they not have a follow-up to 052C? Do you really need to ask this question? Secondly, we don't know the exact detail on the displacement but 7000 to 9000 is reasonable considering how other PLAN classes have increased in size. It could be built in Dalian, but is most likely built in JiangNan like the other 052 series ships.

I doubt Dalian has enough expertise to build an advanced destroyer for the PLAN, if the 051C is any indication of their limitations.

Yeah, the destroyer front for China has been quite quiet this year...

Does anyone have any information on maybe how far they are along with their (if any) next series of Destroyers?

They might be trying to work in how to navalize and fit on the S-400 (hey, we even have two pics of that system in China, though it's certainly not anywhere near IOC).

go to about 23 minutes and they start talking about the radar for 052C. Says that the initial testing was done in Gobi desert. It said they took about 6 months to solve the sea clutter problems with the radar. The part on 052C was only about 3 minutes. Most of the pictures you've seen recently came from this program.

Could easily been the cost.

If recent reports are to be believed, the KJ2000 AWACS radar costs around $200m. Compare their size to the size of the radar on the 052C and scale up the price tag.

Over 10,000 tonnes?? That would be a huge leap from the 052's...

I suppose that this source is credible enough.
If this source is true, I wonder if China would be planning to build a line of Arleigh Burke type destroyers, but larger? I see no other reason for a destroyer to be over 10k tonnes unless they're planning to put lots of VLS's on it.

But before I get too carried away and getting hopes up, I suppose we can only confirm this news when we actually see a destroyer being built.

I wouldn't say that's a huge leap but rather the next step.

I wonder whether they are going to put the HQ-9 or HQ-16 on the next big destroyer?
