Also why is there a discontinuity here, there is no support beams there. Not to mention the latter half of the boat have wider placed support beams than the front half. The more I look into this the more it seems that the "ship" in the drydock might actually be two ships, even if it's one ship it's still far too short to be a carrier.

I don't know how this rumor about the new carrier being under construction got started. As far as I can tell, it's primarily being pushed by two people on the Chinese internet, neither of whom is particularly bright or credible. I've heard nothing from credible sources/big shrimps that corroborates this rumor, not to mention earlier rumors said the nuclear carrier is to be built at a more secluded drydock across the bay. The prospect of getting almost daily updates on a bunch of dots and shapes in a dry dock for the next however many months is not particularly appetizing or becoming of this professional forum when the evidence is so thin.

Self-explanatory.

Courtesy of @Captain on Weibo. FYI the length of Ford between the front of the island and bow of the ship is approximately 246 meter, some people are speculating that if Type 004 have a similar length compared to the Ford class behind the island then Type 004 could potentially be pushing 345+ meters long. It isn't unheard of for a carrier to be that long as the sole Enterprise class carrier is 342 meters long after her refit making her to date the longest warship ever built(Theoretically speaking that title belongs to the USS Pittsburgh with a distance between the bow and stern at over 1000 miles), but depending on how 004 turn out there is a chance IMO that Type 004 will take that title from USS Enterprise. Also I did some measurements myself with Captain's measurements as scale, it seems that the beam of Type 004 would be ~79 meters. Only slightly larger than the Ford's beam of 78 meters

Edit: From @Captain's latest post it seems that the beam of Type 004 is actually slightly wider at 83 meters at the widest point, I'll probably take his measurement over mine since IMO his is probably more accurate.

Reply to by78: However, over the past decade—during which such construction activity has been closely monitored—there has not been a single instance where the ship was identified as a civilian vessel.
