Do you even physics bro?

I mean im obviously half joking with that cartoon-esq scenario, but regardless, attaching jet engine directly to the ship (instead of being on wheels) will definitely have an effect on the ship's speed. Its basic law of physics

I know nothing about physics. I do know that any jet engine being tested on the fantail has zero effect on the speed of the ship. It just doesn't. I've been there I've seen it.

Well with all due respect, what role he served as on the boat is a huge factor on his boating knowledge.

BTW, what the hell is that umbrella doing there covering the engine intake?

That umbrella object is a fine meshed screen used to prevent FOD (Foreign Object Damage) to the engines as they are tested.

I was an aviation ordananceman when I served aboard John F Kennedy, Midway, Hancock and America..handling air-launched weapons..bombs missiles all sorts of air launched weapons munitions and small arms.

I served aboard Nimitz in 1991 by that time I had changed my rating to Aircrew Survival Equipment Man..better known as a Parachute Rigger.

If any of you fine folks want to know what I did while serving with the USN..read this thread

Advisory..because the thread is OLD many of the posted links are dead...

Two meters wider that CVN-78? Interesting. I believe this ship will be nuclear. Everything points to nuclear power.

I'm not going to go back through this thread to find an answer..Has China ever built a ship this large with a nuclear power plant or any other large ship with nuclear power? And what are the "best guess" dimensions of this ship?

Thanks guys!

Dimensions:
43.5-43.8m beam(Pretty accurate measurement from a good source)
~340m waterline length if estimated with Ford's length/beam ratio
12-13m draft(Apparently Fujian have ~13m draft but Ford/Nimitz cap out at 12m)
Assuming similar length behind the island compared to the Ford then flight deck could be 340-350m long as the island from the mockup is placed ~20m aft to the stern compared to the Ford.
Max flight deck width is 83-84m
So overall tonnage assuming 12.5m draft and 340m w/l length would be 12.5*340*43.8*0.62*1.025=118,298 tons

It seems from the looks right now Type 004 carriers are more similar in size to the proposed ECBL carrier than Gerald R. Ford class carrier.

I went back to the old thread on 001A, i.e. Shandong in 2015, go through hundreds of pages...

The arguement that whether the hull in dry dock was a cargo ship, a AOR, an aircraft carrier or a LHA lasted from March 2015 to October 2015 when a hangar deck module was added.

It took 8 months to get a majority consensus that it was indeed an aircraft carrier. So for the current hull in the same drydock, I think we can just agree to disagree what the ship will be. Though I can see that the majority of us have already made up their mind.

First appearance of 001A aka Shandong.

In September 2015, the debate was still very much divided on what ship this hull will be. General consensus was reached in October 2015.

I am going to get vindicated one day. Like I said "We are already seeing two carrier being built concurrently", albeit at the tail end of 003's construction. 003 still has some scaffold on it even today.

The most convincing evidence so far is just how long the modules had been sitting in the drydock without significant work done. I'll still sit on the fence for a while to be extra cautious. A CVNX-2/ECBL sized CVN sounds almost too good to be true. Tho tbf surprising watchers is a staple PLA thing... It's not like PLAN is limited in infrastructure like USN was with CVNX-2.
