Yeah, the one area where India has done well is in long-range missiles (e.g. Agni). I think the Brahmos collaboration with Russia was the seedbed for a lot of these development decades ago.

Maybe missile tech is easier to get right than things like jet engines? Even Iran has hypersonic missiles. I suspect we may also have to make more nuanced differences between various forms of hypersonic missiles, just as we make distinctions between non-thermo atom bombs and thermonuclear weapons.

Until otherwise confirmed I'd just assume it's an Iskander type missile, which have also been hyped by houthis and Iran as hypersonic.

It is a clear step forward for the Indian MIC, but nothing near cutting edge internationally speaking.
